Theme — Big Questions: Though God is far greater than we can ever understand or even imagine, Jesus encourages us to ask and to search. This term, as we ask questions, we hope to understand and experience something of God’s truth and of His will for our lives. On the Sunday before school resumed, we brainstormed big questions and created a shortlist that we will attempt to explore throughout our Sunday mornings this term. Many of the questions are far too big to expect to “answer” in one morning, but we hold on to the challenge to ask and search and remember that truth is much greater than simple answers to complex questions. We look forward to the journey! |
Regular Programs
|
Sunday Morning:
Our regular, weekly programs run during the 10.00 am service. Everyone in Year 7 and up welcome. From 2009 we have two streams for our young people to choose from:
-
RE:New — offers an opportunity to
explore the ideas behind our Bible readings set for each
Sunday, and provides our young people with the tools to
handle the big questions that life throws at us all.
Re:New youth will return to the 10.00 am service to
participate in communion.
-
Youth Space — runs for the duration of
the 10.00 am service. Youth space focuses on
relationships. Each term we will tackle a new topic that
challenges us to change the way we see one another, our
world and God.
|
|
Year 10+ Dinners:
A few times each term our young adults in Year 10 and above
get together for a food and film night. It's a great
opportunity to dig in to a nice meal, share our eclectic
taste in movies and get to know each other better.
|
|
Northside Youth Hubs:
Youth Hubs are an initiative of Synergy Youth
(synergy.org.au).
They run monthly and provide an opportunity for Youth Groups
from across the diocese to come together for a night of fun,
worship and teaching. HC Youth have hosted a hub in the
past (you can check out the slide show on this page) and
continue to participate in these great events.

|
Child Sponsor:
In term 1 we explored some of the radical teachings of Jesus
that turned our ‘world upside down’. One aspect was Jesus‘
challenge to the wealthy and his deep concern for the poor
and marginalised. In discussions throughout the term we were
struck that our young people passionately shared Jesus‘
concern for the poor. At our recent leaders meeting we made
the decision that HC youth would begin sponsoring a child in
an effort to reflect our concern and make a difference,
however small, in our world. We will organise a money box
in the MushRoom and will be asking our young people to
contribute towards this important part of our ministry.

Upcoming Events
|
Pizza & Challenge Night: Sat, 27th Feb, 6:30–8pm, Holy Covenant: Many ages ago the Elves, Dwarves and Pixie-Like-Creatures banded together to forge a cup so glorious that only the most noble who proved themselves beyond doubt were worthy to possess it. On Saturday 27th Feb, HC Youth split into teams to compete for this very cup. Teams will face a number of challenges and the most courageous will be awarded The Honour Cup and go down in the HC Youth history books. Then, after the victors are crowned, we’ll eat some pizza and go home. Bring $5 to help cover costs. Friends are most welcome. |
Past Events

Black Stump 2009, 2–5 October: For the
third year running, HC youth took a group of young people to
Black Stump Christian music and arts festival (www.blackstump.org.au). Fifteen people
from HC Youth went along over the October long weekend.
Highlights? There were many, from great bands to worship
sessions and speakers. Add to that the infamous Stump
doughnuts and the all new Black Stump Guitar Hero Challenge
and you have a pretty great weekend. Thanks to Sam and
Hayley for sorting some amazing food and helping with
organisation and transport. Bring on Stump 2010!

HC Youth Camp 2009: Our second Holy
Covenant Youth Camp was held from 26–28 June 2009 at Caloola
Farm — it was a fantastic weekend. It was a busy few days
with games, activities, challenges and even cooking (hand
made pasta) and cleaning up too! Our speaker, Toby Tan, took
us through the Exodus story and gave plenty of input to our
small groups and workshops. There was even time for a good
old-fashioned bonfire and all the trimmings.
