Throughout the first semester this year we were exploring, listening to and
telling stories... from stories, we move in term 3 to Big Questions.
Though God is far greater than we can ever understand or even imagine, Jesus
encourages us to ask and to search. This term, as we ask questions, we hope
to understand and experience something of God's truth and of His will for our
lives.
On the Sunday before school resumed, we brainstormed big questions and created
a shortlist that we will attempt to explore throughout our Sunday mornings this
term. Many of the questions are far too big to expect to "answer" in one
morning, but we hold on to the challenge to ask and search and remember that
truth is much greater than simple answers to complex questions.
Some of the questions we'll be exploring this term are:
-
Why do bad things happen to good people?
-
What is the meaning of life?
-
Does appearance actually matter and what is 'normal'?
-
... and many more.
We look forward to the journey!

Regular Programs

Sunday Morning:
HC Youth meet on a Sunday morning during the 10 am service. We get
together in the MushRoom to hang out, get to know each other, chat
about our last week and have a great time. Everyone welcome!
This term we're Telling it my way, over the course of the term each
of our young people will get an opportunity to share something of
themselves with the rest of the group, their passions, interests
and the way they see world.
|
|
Small Groups:
In place of Axis this year, we will be creating a number of small
groups who will meet each fortnight at a time other than a Sunday
morning. Our hope is that these small groups will not only be fun,
but will also be a place where we can share ideas, discuss issues
that are impacting upon us and support and pray for each other in
a small, safe group. Some groups might choose to watch or make films,
play sport, games or music, ; others might prefer to share some food,
catch up and discuss.
|
|
Yr10+ Dinners:
A few times each term our young adults in Year 10 and above get
together for a food and film night. It's a great opportunity to
dig in to a nice meal, share our eclectic taste in movies and
get to know each other better.
|
|
Northside Youth Hubs:
Youth Hubs are an initiative of Synergy youth
(synergy.org.au).
They run monthly and provide an opportunity for Youth
Groups from across the diocese to come together for a night of fun, worship
and teaching. HC Youth have hosted a hub in the past (you can check out the
slide show on this page) and continue to participate in these great events.

Black Stump 2008: 3 - 6 October
Black Stump is the biggest annual Christian music and arts festival in
Australia. It's a long weekend full of great music, dance, drama, worship and
teaching. Once again HC Youth are going along. Scroll down to see photos,
slide shows and written accounts from last year's trip. This year, Black Stump
is being held at the (hopefully dust-free) Sydney Equestrian Centre. Click the
link below to open the full information and consent form. Registrations close
on 14th September, but get in quick because we have a limited number of
cheaper tickets available for the first registrations received.

Theatre Restaurant/Soirée:
In August, the youth group hosted a dinner for the church with musical items,
plays and all manner of strange entertainment throughout the evening. We were
expecting 40 but in the end, including the youth group, around 100 people
attended! It was great to see the youth group step up and get involved,
everyone helped out and did a fantastic job. Particular thanks to Karina,
Evelyn and Ewan too who worked tirelessly in the kitchen all night. Certainly
an event to run again in the future.

HC 2008 Youth Camp:
The first Holy Covenant Youth Camp was held from 20-22 June 2008
at Caloola and by all reports it was a fantastic weekend.
It was a busy few days with games, activities and challenges, teaching,
small groups and workshops, even cooking (and cleaning up too!).
There was even time for a good old-fashioned bonfire and all the trimmings.

Youth Hub @ Holy Covenant:
On 2nd March HC Youth hosted the Northside Hub.
It involved some chaotic ice-cream games, a lot of fun and some
great teaching.
For the first time our youth people took the lead,
running small groups, games and giving a small talk.
We look forward to hosting another Youth Hub in November this year.
